A friend of mine does a little summin’ summin’ called #SixforSunday. Originally set up as a regular feature for herself, the idea has now started to be picked up by other book bloggers too and when I saw it I decided I just couldn’t resist! I often need an idea for a post or a little bit of motivation to get my blog up and going so what better way to do it that support a friend, eh?
This weeks prompt – books that made you cry! I’m not someone who cries easily or gets swept up in the emotions all that often, but I’ve definitely got a list of books that have managed to pull on my heart strings!
*Disclaimer… I originally wrote this post for the wrong month and then by the time I remembered to post it, it was too late, so I’ve just posted it now anyway!
1) NOUGHTS AND CROSSES By MALORIE BLACKMAN | ★★★★★
This book is one of my all time favourite books I’ve ever read, like definitely in the top three and battling for a position of first place. Sephy, a cross, and Callum, a nought, live in a world where race dictates everything – what you can do, who you can talk to, the jobs you can have and even the house you’re allowed to live in. However, above all odds, they manage to fall in love. I won’t give much more away and I can’t go into the specifics of why I cry, but the ending has me sobbing every time I read this book.
Love was like an avalanche, with Sephy and I hand-in-hand racing like hell to get out of it’s way-only, instead of running away from it, we kept running straight towards it.
2) THE HATE U GIVE BY ANGIE THOMAS | ★★★★★
That’s the problem. We let people say stuff, and they say it so much that it becomes okay to them and normal for us. What’s the point of having a voice if you’re gonna be silent in those moments you shouldn’t be?
I’ve already reviewed this book, so I won’t get into too much detail but if you pick up this book and don’t fall in love with the family, story line and dedication of Carter, the main character, you must be dead inside.
3) ME BEFORE YOU BY JOJO MOYES | ★★★★
I’m sure most people have read this book, if not seen the film. It follows the story of Louisa Clark who gets a job as a carer, looking after a disabled man called Will. Little does she know, the bond she forms with Will is unlike any she’s ever experienced before but will she finally have her happy ending?
4) WHEN WE COLLIDED BY EMERY LORD | ★★★★★
I’m sure you’re fed up hearing me bang on about this book. I sobbed through this book for many reasons – it’s beautiful, I can relate and the words used are just so damn powerful.
5) DEPRESSION AND OTHER MAGIC TRICKS BY SABRINA BENAIM | ★★★★★
my heart has developed a kind of amnesia, where it remembers everything but itself.
The cutes, most surreal little book of poetry you will ever read. One of my favourite poems has to be ‘explaining my depression to my mother’, mainly because it reminded me of a very similar conversation I’ve had to have!
6) THE START OF ME AND YOU BY EMERY LORD | ★★★★
A lovely little story little story about Paige and her journey through grief. Not the best book I’ve ever read but, my god, Emery Lord knows how to write a kick ass ending.
What books made you cry?
